Day 58 June 10 2012 - Undara

Took our time packing up this morning as we were only travelling 53 kms to Undara.  When we got here we booked for a tour of the Lava Tubes.  We have a really great caravan site – the sites area really big and most of them have their own individual fire pits.  Undara Experience has lots of different accommodation – there is the caravan park, a Swag Tent Village, Safari Shelter and also some railway carriages that have been restored.  There is one carriage that originated from Manchester.

We got on the tour bus at 1pm and were driven about 6km out to the tubes.  Along the way the guide pointed out lots of interesting things.  We saw lots of Wallaroos and Eastern Grey Kangaroos.

The lava tubes we visited were massive.  We went through the Road Cave and the Arch Complex.  In the Arch Complex there was about 6 inches of water on either side of the board walk and the reflection through the water as incredible.  It duplicated what was above it making it look much deeper than it actually was.  It was quite disorientating at times.  It was very hard getting photographs that did the whole thing justice.  Where the lava flow had gone through the tubes was very evident on the walls.

We met up again with Lorraine & Geoff the couple from Mount Martha so we had happy hour with them.  They leave tomorrow for Cairns.

Tonight we went to a camp fire and listened to one of the guides tell us all about different kangaroos and wallabies.  It was very interesting.
