June 8 - Had to be up early this morning as were driving through to Cobbold Gorge for our tour. Cobbold Gorge is about 90 kms from Georgetown and our tour started at 10am. We made a picnic lunch, put a casserole in the slow cooker for dinner and set off from the caravan at about 8-10am. The road out to the Gorge wasn't too bad - part bitumen and part gravel with a lot of floodways - a couple of which had water across - not very deep though.
When we got to Cobbolt Gorge we boarded a 4WD bus for a 10 minute drive to the start of the walk. The tour guide asked Graham and I where we came from and when we said Mount Martha another couple opposite us said so do we - they live just off Racecourse Road at the Craigie Road end. It really is a small world. Lorraine used to work at some of the doctors surgeries and I have spoken to her on many an occasion. We walked to Corbetts Grave - Corbett was allegedly murdered by the aborigines but he was carrying an unknown amount of gold so it is not certain who killed him. We then walked to the escarpment and looked down into the Gorge where we saw a couple of freshwater crocodiles sunning themselves. We then walked back down and boarded an aluminium flat bottomed boat to go through the Gorge. The Gorge itself is very narrow with the boat touching the edges some of the time. We took heaps of photographs between us it was quite spectacular. Unfortunately it was hard to get photographs without peoples heads in them. All in all it was a great day but it was not cheap at $75 per person. We got back to Georgetown at about 3-30pm and had happy hour with some of the other campers.
