Fortunately
we asked one of the couples that we met at Bang Bang Rest Area to book Leichart
Lagoon for us if they got there first and when we got here the sign on the gate
said “No Vacancies Unless Prior Booking Made”.
Well we came in and Phil & Angie had booked us a site and also
booked us in for the evening meal. We
came in here with Richard and Mary who we had met at Gregory Downs. The evening meal is incredible, it costs $5
for a three course dinner. We drove over
to the homestead – only about a five minute drive – and we were served Pea
& Ham Soup, Roast Beef & Vegetables then steam pudding and custard
(Graham and 2 servings of soup and 2 deserts).
It was rather nice and for $5 each nobody was complaining. We had a good night a lady played the organ
and it was another very mild clear night with lots of stars.

We drove
into Karumba today and visited Lyn & Noel who are staying there for two
months. We left the van at about 8-15am
and drove the 93kms to Karumba. We met
Lyn & Noel at their caravan and then we drove to the Sunday market, which
is a craft market put on every Sunday outside the pub. It was lovely to catch up with them again and
we were able to catch up on a few phone calls as we had range. After we walked around the market for about
an hour we had lunch at the pub (very nice fish & chips) then we went back
to the caravan park. Karumba is on the
Gulf of Carpenteria, it was lovely to see the ocean again – it seems a long
time since we saw it. The weather was
perfect (about 27 degrees). We bought a
kilo of king prawns at the caravan park for $15, which we were going to have
for dinner tonight but we both we still full from lunch and decided just to
have a sandwich. We will have the prawns
tomorrow.
