Had a much quieter day today. Caught up once again with the washing, then did some grocery shopping. We filled up the car all in readiness for our move to St George tomorrow.
Here in Lightning Ridge they give you a mud map of self guided tours - the tours are all marked with different coloured car doors - Red, Blue, Yellow and Green. We had already done most of the Red and Yellow ones on our different tours. Today we did the Green and Blue.
The Green one takes you out through a lot of mine fields to a spot which is called Nettleton's First Shaft. This shaft was sunk in 1902/03.
The Blue one takes you to the Cactus Garden and a walk in mine. We also had a quick look at the cemetry here, it is amazing how many graves on unknown people there are. One can only presume that these were miners who died down the mines.
Tonight we went to the Bowling Club for dinner - we both had the roast of the day (beef) and it was very nice and inexpensive.
This is an abandoned house - built with tin cans. |
One of many living areas of the miners - how do they do it? |
