Well what a fantastic day we have had today. We booked in at the Daintree Air Service Office at 7am and we took off at about 7-45. The flight to Bamaga took two and a half hours. We few over the northern beaches of Cairns, then on to Bloomfield, Cooktown, Indian Head and Cape Bedford along with lots of other islands too numerous to mention. After being in Cooktown the other week it was good to see Grassy Hill Lookout from the air. We flew above rainforests, wetlands, silica sands and lots of beautiful beaches. Unfortunately it wasn't the clearest of days it was a bit cloudy but we did get a good view. We also saw Lizard Island before swinging across country and landing at Bamaga.
At Bamaga we boarded a four wheel drive bus for the journey to the tip which was about 34 km and took about 40 minutes, the track was very corrugated in places and we had to cross one creek. Near the car park at the tip there is an old five star resort that used to be run by the 'locals' and apparently was run very well until the generator got burnt out in a bush fire and they had no money to fix it. They were spending the profits and not putting money aside for repairs needed. We walked out to the tip, which took about half an hour over some rocks and of course took lots of photographs. On our walk back from the tip to Frangipani Bay we had a rain shower so got a bit wet, it didn't last long and were able to each our lunch on the beach. After lunch we got back onto the four wheel drive bus to Bamaga. We stopped on the way back at the 'Croc Tent' which is a souvenier shop run by a young couple.
After getting back on the plane we flew over the tip on our way to Horne Island where we landed to refuel. We also flew over Thursday Island and Prince of Wales Island. It was good to see the tip from the air after we had walked out there. Coming into land at Cairns was a sight to be seen we could see all the lights on the runway that guide the pilot into land. It was a very long day we arrived back at the van park at about 7-30pm, needless to say both very tired. We called down to see David and Betty and David kindly cooked us some squid for dinner. He had caught the squid in Smoky Bay.

Another early night for us tonight, we had a wonderful day but it was very tiring. It was a once in a lifetime experience and one I don't think either of us will ever forget.
