Day 146 - 147 September 6 - 7 - Yeppoon

We decided to stay at the Big4 - Capricorn Palms which is in Mulambin Beach about a 20 minute drive from Yeppoon.  It is on the coast but the park is about a 5 minute drive from the beach.  From the beach you can see Great Keppel Island.  We have decided not to go over there as we have already done a couple of islands.   When we got here on Thursday we had to catch up on a bit of shopping - it seems that we go to the supermarket quite often.  We picked up some mail that Damien had forwarded then we relaxed at the van for the rest of the afternoon.

Friday we went for a drive into Rockhampton - about 50 km from here.  We had a drive around the city, there are some great historical buildings there including one which houses the Information Centre.  Most of the houses around Rockhampton are old Queenslanders, most of which could do with a lick of paint.  We tried to find a good one to take a photograph of and the one below is one of the better ones.   We then drove to the Botanical Gardens and Zoo, where we had morning tea.  The gardens were not as good as some as we have seen but were set on the river.  We then decided that on the way back to the caravan we would call at Emu Park - about a 10 minute drive from the park.  We bumped into a couple and their three children that were on the free camp at St Lawrence with us - Kate and Peter.  We sat and had lunch at the park and had a good chat with them.   Emu Park is home of the Singing Ship which was built in honor of Captain Cook to commemorate his visit in 1770.  The sea breeze produces a musical sound through fluted pipes.  Quite incredible.
