Day 116 & 117 Aug 7 & 8 2012 - Townsville

Tuesday - we intended to stay at Saunders Beach tonight which is a free camp, when we got there it was packed.  It is only a very small camp probably would only hold about 20 vans, and apparently people are queuing at 7am to get a spot on there.  Any we turned around and went back to Bluewater which is another free camp on the Bruce highway between Ingham and Townsville.  This was also packed with at least 50 vans but we did manage to find ourselves a spot.

Wednesday - drove through to Townsville.  We are staying at the Coral Coast Tourist Park which is close to the highway and also the airport so it has been quite noisy this afternoon.  We are only here for one night and booked here because it is the closest park to the Jayco dealer.  We have to take the van there tomorrow to get the water pressure problem looked at.   This afternoon we went for a drive and were pleasantly surprised, Townsville seems to be quite a nice city.  We went to have a look at The Strand, which is a really nice area looking out to Magnetic Island.  At one end there is a rock pool, which has a special pumping system that was imported from Sweden and it pumps the water in the pool 24 hours a day.   The pool is 10 times the size of an Olympic pool and the entire water volume is replaced every three hours.  Tonight the caravan park put on a "Meet and Greet Sausage Sizzle" around a camp fire and the manager told a few jokes.  It was a good evening and we got to meet a few fellow travellers.
