Day 115 Aug 6 2012 - Lucinda

Left Mission Beach this morning heading for a free camp near Townsville - Saunders Park.  We had intentions of going through to Townsville centre tomorrow to put some paperwork into Centrelink - however when we stopped at Ingham for morning tea there was a Centrelink Office right where we stopped so we were able to put the paperwork in there.  Therefore we decided to come to a little fishing town called Lucinda.  Lucinda is another town that was affected by Yasi - there is a bulk sugar jetty which is about 3 kilometres long, this was badly damaged and is no longer being used.  It will cost $30 million to repair it.  At present they are sending all the sugar for export through to Townsville.  Apparently there was a Baramndi farm in the estuary and when the cyclone struck about 65,000 fish escaped, the fishermen last year were in second heaven catching them.  We had a walk this afternoon down to the jetty, it is quite a nice little place and looks out to Hinchinbrook Island.
